Dolphins earn big win in split with Pitt CC

Game 1: 3 - 5 L

The Dolphins put up a fight with more hits than the Bulldogs, but came up short, leaving five runners stranded in the loss against Pitt CC.

 

Victoria Howard scored the first run of the game with a Sac fly to left field, scoring Annalise Rodriguez. The Dolphins held the led until the third inning, when the Bulldogs pulled away with four runs. The Fins tried to make a comeback in the 6th inning with a string of singles from Howard, Hamilton, and Madison Strichek, but came up short. 

 

Hamilton took the loss in the circle for the Dolphins, allowing six hits over five innings. Ava Hinson came in at the top of the 6th inning shutting down three batters and walking one.

 

Game 2:  4 - 2 W

The fins solidified the win with back-to-back homeruns in the sixth inning, scoring the three runs needed to win the game.

 

Zoie Hamilton opened up the game with a double, scoring Madison Strichek who was hit by a pitch. There were no more runs scored until the 6th inning when a two-out rally was started by Victoria Howard with a forced error at 2B, followed by a 1-2 count homerun by Strichek, and capitalized with a one pitch homerun by Hamilton.

 

Defensively, the fins were nearly perfect with only one error on an attempt for a double play. Savannah Birdsong shut down a third of the Bulldog offense on strikeouts alone, allowing five hits and two runs.

 

The Dolphins take on the Southwest Virginia CC Flying Eagle today at 11 am and 1 pm.
